Compare/Contrast Topic Comment

Hello, All
As noted in class, I want each of you to respond to this post with three things:

1) Which sort of paper (pro/con or Perception/reality) you will be writing

2) What your specific topic for comparison will be

3) What your basis for comparison/what you are basing your eventual choice on (for pro/con
papers) or what you are going to demonstrate as far as similarities and differences (for
perception/reality papers)

Make sure you put it as a response to this post so that I will see it, and make sure you get it in by Sunday night. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

I trust I will write my paper using the pro/ con comparison. Naturally, I could operate around perspective/ reality, but, unfortunately, I do not know precisely what you expect in that kind of a paper. It goes without saying that our perspective is most certainly radically different than reality; this much is obvious. But since you spent all class period providing us with prolix elaboration about the obvious and no time actually demonstrating how such a paper would be written, I can not know for certain if I can even pull this option off. It's a shame, really, seeing how this option may be more appropriate. But I digress. I plan on doing my paper about the differences between poetry and rap. Providing the similarities and differences will be quite easy. It is finding legitimate quotations that will be difficult. Nevertheless, I will compare and contrast the two in the following ways: both look identical when observed on paper; both follow linguistics; both use allusions; neither are written for the same audience; neither are spoken the same; neither contain the same diction. I am certain that more will come to me, but I am sure that will suffice for now.

I am going to do a preception vs. reality paper. It's going to be about alcohol. On of the things I am going to focus on in driving under the influence. Thanks Heather Davenport.

I am going to do a pro/con paper, on two different types of vehicles, the different uses of the two.

Hello, all,
Your ideas so far sound workable. I would remind everyone who has posted of an important point, however: no matter what you are comparing, if you are going to write the pro/con type of paper, you MUST CHOOSE ONE ITEM OVER THE OTHER. The basis for that choice is entirely up to you, but you must make that basis clear to your reader. If you do the perception/reality paper, you will need to make sure that it is clear whose perceptions you are talking about (your own, society, some certain segment of society) and also make sure that you have material that will support the reality that you are presenting (this is where the outside sources come in).
